Nellie Jarboe was born in Baltimore, with an older brother Robert, later sibling to Anna, Caroline and Mary. She attended school until the 6th grade then began working as a seamstress to help support her family. She met and married Carroll Jarboe Junior in Baltimore, then moved to St. Mary’s County. They settled on a 47 acre farm “Sandy Bottom.” During her adventure there, they cultivated Corn, Beans, Tobacco, and raised pigs and Cattle. Carroll worked full time at Dean and Beavers as an Office Manager, and would come home to work the farm. In the mid forties they added Michael Frank Jarboe to the family and kept up the hard work. She kept their bellies full and helped with the farm. Pop passed in 1986. Nellie eventually sold the farm and moved in with her boy Michael, later joining us at Chesapeake Shores. Nellie was voted “January Resident of the Month” by here peers here at Chesapeake Shores. Please join us in congratulating her!
